Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Carpenter Craftsman to join our vibrant team at The Karen Workshop in Karen, Nairobi. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced professional who possesses a deep passion for woodworking and a commitment to producing high-quality, bespoke pieces. As a Skilled Carpenter Craftsman, you will be instrumental in all stages of our projects, from interpreting complex designs and blueprints to the precise fabrication and installation of custom furniture, cabinetry, doors, windows, and other architectural joinery. You will work with a diverse range of timbers and materials, employing both traditional hand tools and modern machinery to achieve impeccable finishes and structural integrity. Your role will involve careful measurement, cutting, shaping, and assembly, ensuring every component meets our stringent quality standards. We are looking for someone who takes immense pride in their work, demonstrates excellent problem-solving abilities, and can contribute creatively to design and construction challenges. Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and sketches to create custom wood products.
- Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood, laminates, and other materials using hand tools and power machinery.
- Fabricate and install bespoke furniture, cabinets, doors, windows, shelving, and other architectural elements.
- Ensure all finished products meet high-quality standards and precise specifications.
- Perform finishing tasks, including sanding, staining, varnishing, and polishing.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
- Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of tools and equipment.
- Collaborate effectively with design teams, project managers, and other craftsmen.
- Identify and resolve issues related to material defects, design challenges, or installation complications.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and procedures at all times.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a skilled carpenter or joiner
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications
- Expertise in using various hand and power tools safely and effectively (e.g., saws, planers, routers, sanders)
- Strong understanding of different wood types, materials, and their properties
- Excellent measurement and mathematical skills for precise cutting and assembly
- Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality craftsmanship
- Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform demanding tasks
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
