Career.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Carpenter specializing in Woodwork & Furniture to join a dynamic team in the Great Barr area of Birmingham. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for a wide array of carpentry tasks, from initial design interpretation and material selection to the final assembly and finishing of bespoke furniture and custom wooden structures. You will work on diverse projects, which may include crafting custom cabinets, tables, chairs, shelving units, as well as undertaking more general carpentry work on site, such as fitting doors, frames, skirting boards, and carrying out repairs. We are looking for someone who takes immense pride in their work, possesses an unwavering eye for detail, and can consistently produce work to the highest standards of craftsmanship.

Our ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of various wood types, their properties, and the most effective techniques for working with them. Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and execute technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications for various woodworking and furniture projects.
  • Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood and other carpentry materials accurately according to project requirements.
  • Construct, repair, and install bespoke furniture, cabinets, shelving, doors, frames, and other wooden fixtures.
  • Operate and maintain a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery safely and effectively.
  • Select and prepare appropriate wood types and materials based on project specifications and design intent.
  • Ensure all work adheres to quality standards, safety regulations, and project timelines.
  • Collaborate with team members, designers, and clients to understand project needs and provide expert input.
  • Perform finishing tasks such as sanding, staining, varnishing, and polishing to achieve desired aesthetic and protective qualities.
  • Conduct regular inspections of work to ensure precision, structural integrity, and aesthetic appeal.
  • Manage and organize workspace, ensuring cleanliness and efficient material handling.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in woodworking techniques and practices
  • Expertise in operating hand and power carpentry tools
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent qualification
  • Experience with bespoke furniture design and construction
  • Portfolio demonstrating previous woodworking and furniture projects
  • Experience with CAD software for woodworking (e.g., SketchUp, AutoCAD)
  • Full UK driving license
