Key Responsibilities

  • Assist journeymen carpenters with various construction tasks, including measuring, cutting, and shaping wood according to specifications.
  • Learn to interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications under supervision to understand project requirements.
  • Help construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, and wallboard, such as wall frames, roofs, and doorframes.
  • Safely operate and maintain hand and power tools commonly used in carpentry, including saws, drills, and hammers, under direct supervision.
  • Load and unload materials, and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work site, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate actively in on-the-job training and learning opportunities, asking questions and seeking feedback to enhance skills.
  • Support the team in ensuring projects are completed efficiently, on schedule, and to high standards of quality.
  • Assist with the installation of windows, doors, stairs, cabinetry, and other building components.
  • Perform general labour duties as required to support the construction team and project progress.

Required Skills

  • Strong willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and challenges.
  • Basic understanding of measurements and calculations (e.g., using a tape measure).
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately and meticulously.
  • Good physical stamina, dexterity, and the ability to lift heavy materials safely.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to consistent attendance.
  • Team-oriented attitude with effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Strong commitment to safety practices and understanding of their importance on a construction site.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience with hand tools or in a manual labour role (even if informal or personal projects).
  • Basic knowledge of construction materials, terminology, and processes.
  • Valid driver's license (not mandatory but considered an asset for future mobility).
