Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of food and beverages, adhering strictly to menu specifications and any special dietary requirements.
- Serve food and drinks to guests in a professional, friendly, and efficient manner, ensuring a positive guest experience.
- Set up and clear down event spaces meticulously, including tables, chairs, buffet stations, and service areas before and after events.
- Maintain exceptionally high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all kitchen and serving areas, including dishwashing, sanitising surfaces, and equipment cleaning.
- Restock supplies proactively throughout events, ensuring that all necessary items are available and organised.
- Operate basic catering equipment safely and efficiently, following all operational guidelines.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and food hygiene regulations (e.g., HACCP) to ensure food safety and prevent cross-contamination.
- Provide excellent customer service, responding promptly and courteously to guest requests and inquiries, and anticipating their needs.
- Work effectively as part of a team, communicating clearly with colleagues and supervisors to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Assist with inventory checks, stock rotation, and receiving deliveries as required to maintain efficient stock levels.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 6 months) as a Catering Assistant or in a similar food service role, ideally within an event-based environment.
- Strong understanding and practical application of food hygiene and safety regulations (e.g., Level 1 or 2 Food Hygiene Certificate).
- Ability to work effectively and remain calm in a fast-paced, high-pressure, and demanding event environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting politely with guests and colleagues.
- Highly reliable, punctual, and organised, with a strong attention to detail.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as dictated by event schedules.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift and carry moderately heavy items (up to 15kg), and perform tasks requiring bending and reaching.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Previous experience specifically within event catering, banqueting, or large-scale hospitality.
- Basic knowledge of common dietary requirements, allergens, and alternative food preparations.
- A proactive attitude, strong initiative, and a genuine willingness to learn new skills and adapt to different event demands.
- Own transport or reliable access to transport, enabling travel to various event locations within Liverpool.
- A passion for food and delivering exceptional guest experiences.
