Kiss the Cook Catering is actively seeking a diligent and enthusiastic Catering Prep Assistant to join our bustling kitchen operations in the High Park area of Toronto. As a Catering Prep Assistant, you will be an integral part of our culinary brigade, supporting our talented chefs in executing high-volume catering orders with precision and efficiency. Your day will involve a variety of tasks crucial to our success, from meticulously preparing ingredients according to recipes and specifications, to ensuring our kitchen maintains the highest standards of hygiene and organization. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals, learning the nuances of large-scale event catering and contributing directly to the creation of delectable dishes that delight our clients. Key Responsibilities

  • Execute ingredient preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, chopping, dicing, and portioning of fruits, vegetables, and other food items as per chef instructions and recipes.
  • Assist culinary team with basic cooking tasks such as mixing, stirring, and assembling food components.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment, adhering strictly to all food safety and hygiene regulations (HACCP principles).
  • Support inventory management by properly receiving, storing, rotating, and organizing food supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with dishwashing and general kitchen clean-up at the end of shifts and events.
  • Operate basic kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Prepare food items for delivery or pick-up, ensuring proper packaging and labeling.
  • Collaborate effectively with chefs and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the catering team and kitchen needs.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 6 months of experience in a kitchen or food preparation role.
  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation principles.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by catering schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Food Handler Certificate (Toronto Public Health).
  • Enrollment or completion of a culinary program.
  • Previous experience in a catering or high-volume kitchen environment.
  • Familiarity with various kitchen tools and equipment beyond basic usage.
