Job Description

Join G4S Botswana, a leader in integrated security solutions, as a dedicated CCTV Operator in our state-of-the-art surveillance room located in Selibe-Phikwe. This full-time, on-site role is absolutely crucial for maintaining the safety and security of our client’s premises and personnel. As a CCTV Operator, you will be at the forefront of our security operations, diligently monitoring multiple camera feeds, identifying suspicious activities, and promptly reporting incidents to relevant personnel. This position demands exceptional attention to detail, quick decision-making skills, and a calm, composed demeanor under pressure. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining advanced surveillance equipment, ensuring all systems are functioning optimally, and accurately documenting all observations and actions taken.

Your day-to-day will involve constant vigilance, interpreting complex visual data, and responding swiftly to any anomalies. This includes proactively identifying unauthorized access, suspicious behavior, potential theft, and health and safety concerns that could impact our client’s operations or employees. You’ll work closely with on-site security teams and management, acting as their eyes and ears to provide real-time intelligence that aids in immediate incident prevention and effective response. Furthermore, you will be tasked with reviewing recorded footage for investigations, assisting in the preparation of detailed incident reports, and ensuring strict adherence to data protection regulations and company protocols. This role involves working in a dynamic environment, often requiring flexible shift work, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, to ensure continuous surveillance coverage. Key Responsibilities

  • Diligently monitor multiple CCTV camera feeds simultaneously to detect and identify any unusual or suspicious activities, security breaches, or potential threats.
  • Operate and control advanced CCTV surveillance equipment, including PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) cameras, digital video recorders (DVRs), and network video recorders (NVRs).
  • Promptly report all observed incidents, alarms, and suspicious activities to the appropriate security personnel, management, or emergency services in accordance with established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed logs of all incidents, observations, actions taken, and system malfunctions, ensuring proper record-keeping.
  • Review recorded footage as requested for investigations, incident verification, and evidence collection, preserving chain of custody.
  • Assist in the preparation of comprehensive incident reports and provide verbal or written statements as required for investigations and legal proceedings.
  • Ensure the continuous operational readiness of all CCTV equipment, conducting regular checks and reporting any faults or malfunctions immediately for repair.
  • Adhere strictly to all company security policies, procedures, and data protection regulations (e.g., POPIA, GDPR principles).
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with on-site security teams, law enforcement, and other relevant stakeholders during incidents and routine operations.
  • Conduct regular system health checks to ensure optimal performance and functionality of all surveillance hardware and software components.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of proven experience as a CCTV Operator or in a similar surveillance role.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operating and monitoring complex CCTV systems and related software.
  • Excellent observational skills with a keen eye for detail and the ability to identify anomalies quickly.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for accurate reporting and clear instruction.
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and make sound decisions under pressure and during emergency situations.
  • Basic computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  • High level of integrity, trustworthiness, and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, as required by operational needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant security certifications or training (e.g., local security industry authority certification or equivalent).
  • Experience with specific surveillance software platforms (e.g., Genetec, Milestone, Avigilon, or similar VMS).
  • Knowledge of local security regulations, protocols, and crime prevention strategies in Botswana.
  • Prior experience working within a centralized security control room environment for a large organization or security firm.
