Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a commercial motor vehicle (Class A CDL) for local and regional routes, adhering to all federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT hours of service.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, documenting any defects or maintenance needs promptly.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods to designated locations, maintaining excellent communication with dispatch and customers.
- Secure cargo properly to prevent shifting or damage during transit, utilizing appropriate tie-downs and safety measures.
- Complete and submit all required paperwork, including logs, manifests, delivery receipts, and inspection reports, accurately and on time.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance of the vehicle and uphold a high standard of customer service during interactions.
- Adhere strictly to company policies and safety procedures at all times, prioritizing personal safety and the safety of others on the road.
- Be capable of light manual labor, such as loading/unloading cargo with forklifts or hand trucks when necessary, and assisting with customer deliveries.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record (MVR).
- Minimum of 2 years (24 months) verifiable commercial driving experience.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations, hours of service, and vehicle safety.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven track record of reliability, punctuality, and a strong commitment to safety.
- Physical ability to perform routine tasks associated with truck driving, including lifting, bending, and climbing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electronic logging devices (ELDs).
- Hazmat (H) and Tanker (N) endorsements, or willingness to obtain.
- Experience operating various types of commercial vehicles and trailers.
- Familiarity with the Elgin, IL, and surrounding Chicago metropolitan area routes.
