Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to women, including gynecological care, family planning, prenatal care, and postpartum care.
- Manage labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum period for low-risk pregnancies, including attending births.
- Conduct thorough physical examinations, interpret diagnostic tests, and formulate individualized care plans.
- Prescribe medications, treatments, and therapeutic measures within the scope of practice and provincial regulations.
- Educate and counsel patients and their families on various health topics, including pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, registered nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care.
- Respond to obstetric emergencies and initiate appropriate interventions, consulting with physicians as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and confidential electronic health records, documenting all patient encounters and interventions.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, quality improvement initiatives, and educational activities.
- Advocate for patients' rights and choices, promoting a respectful and empowering birthing experience.
Required Skills
- Current and active registration as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
- Master's degree in Nursing or Midwifery from an accredited program.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a Certified Nurse Midwife.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care.
- Exceptional clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and patient education abilities.
- Ability to work autonomously and as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a rural or community-based healthcare setting.
- Additional certifications in specialized areas such as Advanced Fetal Monitoring.
- Bilingualism (e.g., English and German/Plautdietsch) is an asset, reflecting local community demographics.
- Previous experience in quality improvement or patient safety initiatives.
