Job Description

Econet Wireless Zimbabwe is seeking an exceptionally talented and visionary Chief Digital Officer (CDO) to lead our digital transformation initiatives and drive innovation across all facets of our business. Based in Bulawayo, this strategic leadership role requires a dynamic individual with a deep understanding of emerging digital technologies, market trends, and a proven track record of successfully implementing large-scale digital strategies. The CDO will be instrumental in shaping our digital roadmap, fostering a culture of innovation, and ensuring that Econet remains at the forefront of the digital revolution in Zimbabwe and beyond. You will work closely with the executive team to identify new digital opportunities, optimize existing digital channels, and enhance the overall customer experience through technology. This role demands a blend of strategic thinking, technical expertise, and strong leadership to guide our teams through continuous digital evolution. The successful candidate will be a proactive change agent, capable of inspiring cross-functional collaboration and delivering measurable impact in a fast-paced, competitive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive digital strategy aligned with the company’s overall business objectives and growth ambitions.
  • Lead the identification, evaluation, and adoption of new digital technologies and platforms to enhance operational efficiency, customer engagement, and revenue generation.
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives across all departments, including marketing, sales, customer service, product development, and operations.
  • Oversee the development and management of digital products and services, ensuring they meet market demands and deliver superior user experiences.
  • Foster a data-driven culture, utilizing analytics and insights to inform digital strategy, optimize performance, and identify new business opportunities.
  • Build, mentor, and lead high-performing digital teams, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Manage digital budgets, resources, and vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective and efficient delivery of digital projects.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes to ensure Econet maintains a competitive edge and complies with all relevant standards.
  • Act as a key evangelist for digital innovation, both internally and externally, representing Econet at industry events and forums.
  • Ensure robust digital security and data privacy measures are in place across all digital platforms and initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in digital strategy, product management, or technology leadership roles, with at least 5 years at a senior executive level.
  • Proven track record of successfully conceptualizing, launching, and scaling digital products and services in a complex, fast-moving environment.
  • Expertise in various digital domains including e-commerce, mobile applications, cloud computing, AI/ML, big data analytics, and digital marketing.
  • Strong strategic planning and execution skills, with the ability to translate vision into actionable digital roadmaps.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building capabilities, with experience managing diverse, high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Deep understanding of the telecommunications industry and the digital landscape in emerging markets.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum) and digital product lifecycle management.
  • Strong analytical skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Certifications in digital transformation, agile methodologies, or relevant technology platforms.
  • Experience working in a multinational or large enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive cultural change and innovation within an organization.
  • Strong network within the technology and digital innovation ecosystem.
