Job Description

We are seeking an exceptionally talented and visionary Chief Engineering Officer (CEO) to lead our entire engineering and technical operations at Sable Chemicals Industries Limited. This is a pivotal executive leadership role responsible for driving technological innovation, operational efficiency, and strategic engineering initiatives across our vast manufacturing complex in Kwekwe. The Chief Engineering Officer will be instrumental in shaping the long-term technical direction of the company, ensuring the reliability, safety, and optimal performance of all engineering systems, processes, and infrastructure. This role demands a seasoned leader with a deep understanding of heavy industrial processes, particularly within chemical manufacturing or similar complex environments. You will oversee all engineering disciplines, including process engineering, mechanical, electrical, civil, and instrumentation, ensuring seamless integration and alignment with business objectives. Beyond day-to-day operational excellence, the CEO will champion strategic projects, including capital expenditure planning, facility upgrades, and the implementation of cutting-edge technologies to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and maintain our competitive edge. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all engineering functions and technical operations across the company.
  • Develop and execute the long-term engineering strategy, aligning with overall business goals and growth objectives.
  • Manage and optimize significant capital expenditure projects from conception through completion, ensuring budget adherence and timely delivery.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers and technical professionals.
  • Ensure the highest standards of operational efficiency, plant reliability, and asset integrity through robust maintenance and engineering practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, implementing lean manufacturing principles and advanced engineering solutions.
  • Oversee research and development efforts, exploring and integrating new technologies to enhance production processes and product quality.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant industry regulations, environmental standards, and safety protocols.
  • Manage the engineering budget, optimizing resource allocation and cost control.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration within the engineering department and across the organization.
  • Act as a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to overall corporate strategy and decision-making.

Required Skills

  • Proven executive leadership experience in a large-scale industrial or manufacturing environment (preferably chemical/process).
  • Exceptional strategic planning and execution capabilities.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with large capital project budgeting and management.
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering principles across multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical, process, civil).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop diverse engineering teams.
  • Profound understanding of safety regulations, environmental compliance, and quality management systems.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in modern engineering software and project management tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration (MBA), or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with SAP or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Previous experience specifically within the fertilizer or heavy chemical manufacturing sector.
