Job Description

As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Mazowe Citrus Estates, you will be the strategic lynchpin, directly responsible for the comprehensive oversight and optimization of all operational aspects across our extensive agricultural estate. This pivotal senior leadership role demands a visionary leader with a proven track record in large-scale agricultural operations, exceptional business acumen, and an unwavering commitment to operational excellence. You will be instrumental in translating strategic objectives into actionable operational plans, driving efficiency, productivity, and profitability across farming, processing, logistics, and administrative functions.

Your day-to-day will involve a dynamic blend of strategic planning, hands-on operational management, and team leadership. You will lead a diverse workforce, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement. This role requires an individual who can navigate the complexities of modern agriculture, including climate variability, market fluctuations, and technological advancements, to ensure the sustained success and growth of the estate. You will work closely with the CEO and other executive team members to develop and execute long-term strategic initiatives, enhance supply chain resilience, and explore opportunities for innovation and expansion. A deep understanding of sustainable agricultural practices, resource management, and compliance with local and international standards is paramount. You will be expected to champion digital transformation initiatives where applicable, leveraging data and technology to improve decision-making and operational outcomes. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement operational strategies that align with the company's overall business objectives and growth plans.
  • Oversee all aspects of farm management, including crop planning, cultivation, irrigation, pest control, and harvesting operations, ensuring optimal yield and quality.
  • Manage and optimize post-harvest handling, packing, and processing facilities to ensure product integrity and market readiness.
  • Lead and mentor a large, multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous professional development.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives, improve operational efficiencies, and enhance productivity across all departments.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all agricultural regulations, environmental standards, labor laws, and quality certifications.
  • Manage the supply chain, including procurement of inputs, logistics, and distribution of finished products to various markets.
  • Oversee the maintenance and optimal utilization of all estate assets, including machinery, infrastructure, and land.
  • Prepare and manage operational budgets, ensuring financial discipline and accountability.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies and innovative practices to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to ensure product availability and meet market demands.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships with local communities, government bodies, and industry partners.

Required Skills

  • Experience with international agricultural markets and export operations.
  • Demonstrated success in leading digital transformation initiatives within an agricultural context.
  • Fluency in local languages (e.g., Shona) is an advantage.
