Job Description

Mimosa Mining Company is seeking an experienced, visionary, and highly skilled Chief Security Officer (CSO) to lead and oversee all aspects of security for our extensive mining operations in Zvishavane. This is a critical leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive security strategies, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets, personnel, information, and reputation against a broad spectrum of threats. The CSO will be instrumental in identifying and mitigating security risks, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry best practices, and fostering a robust security-conscious culture across the entire organisation.

Reporting directly to the executive leadership, the CSO will be the principal advisor on all security matters, providing strategic guidance on physical security infrastructure, access control systems, sophisticated surveillance technologies, emergency preparedness protocols, and meticulous incident response plans. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading, mentoring, and developing a dedicated and professional security team, coordinating closely with operational departments, human resources, and external stakeholders, including local law enforcement agencies and community leaders. This demanding role requires a proactive, highly analytical, and detail-oriented leader with a strong background in managing complex security operations within challenging industrial environments, particularly within the large-scale mining sector. You will be at the forefront of protecting our valuable resources, ensuring operational continuity, and maintaining a safe and secure environment for everyone at Mimosa. Your expertise will be crucial in navigating the unique security challenges inherent in a large-scale mining operation in Zimbabwe, requiring a blend of strategic foresight, operational acumen, and strong community engagement skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine comprehensive security strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with corporate objectives and industry best practices.
  • Oversee the design, deployment, and maintenance of physical security systems, including access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, and perimeter security.
  • Lead, manage, and develop a high-performing security team, ensuring optimal staffing, training, and operational effectiveness.
  • Conduct thorough security risk assessments, vulnerability analyses, and threat intelligence gathering to proactively identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all relevant local and national security laws, regulations, and corporate governance standards.
  • Develop and execute robust incident response plans for security breaches, emergencies, and other critical events.
  • Protect company assets, including high-value mining equipment, raw materials, finished products, and intellectual property.
  • Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with local law enforcement, emergency services, government bodies, and community stakeholders.
  • Effectively manage the security budget, resources, and vendor relationships to ensure cost-efficient and high-quality security services.
  • Provide regular, comprehensive reports on security status, incidents, and strategic initiatives to executive management and relevant boards.
  • Implement and promote security awareness training programs for all employees.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Security Management, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • Professional security certifications (e.g., CPP – Certified Protection Professional, CISM – Certified Information Security Manager, PSP – Physical Security Professional).
  • Demonstrated experience in the mining or other heavy industrial sectors, preferably within Southern Africa.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles relevant to operational technology (OT) environments.
  • Established network within law enforcement, intelligence agencies, and security organizations in Zimbabwe.
  • Fluency in local languages, such as Shona or Ndebele, is an advantage.
