Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of childcare practitioners, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Develop and implement engaging, age-appropriate curriculum plans that align with national early years frameworks.
  • Ensure the daily operation of the childcare setting meets and exceeds all regulatory requirements and internal standards.
  • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on child progress and addressing concerns effectively.
  • Oversee child safeguarding and welfare, acting as a designated safeguarding lead when required.
  • Manage resources, including equipment and supplies, to support a stimulating learning environment.
  • Conduct regular observations and assessments of children's development, providing tailored support where necessary.
  • Organise and facilitate staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, and developmental progress.
  • Promote an inclusive environment that respects diversity and individual needs.

Required Skills

  • Proven leadership experience in a childcare or early years setting.
  • Excellent knowledge of early childhood development theories and best practices.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of child safeguarding and welfare procedures.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with children, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to plan, organise, and execute daily activities and curriculum effectively.
  • Current Paediatric First Aid certification.
  • Proficiency in record-keeping and administrative tasks related to childcare operations.
  • A nurturing, patient, and enthusiastic approach to working with children.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification at SCQF Level 9 or above (e.g., BA in Childhood Practice, PDA in Childhood Practice).
  • Experience working with children with additional support needs.
  • Knowledge of local authority policies and procedures for early learning and childcare.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum design and implementation.
