Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe, stimulating, and nurturing home-based environment for children during daytime hours.
  • Plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate activities, including creative play, educational games, and outdoor excursions.
  • Prepare and serve healthy, balanced meals and snacks, accommodating any dietary requirements or allergies.
  • Manage daily routines, including nap times, feeding schedules, and personal hygiene.
  • Observe, monitor, and track children's developmental progress, providing regular, constructive feedback to parents.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records, including attendance, incident reports, and medication administration.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all relevant childcare regulations, health and safety standards, and safeguarding policies.
  • Foster positive, open, and respectful relationships with children and their families.
  • Handle minor first aid incidents and implement emergency procedures effectively and calmly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic childcare space, ensuring it is conducive to learning and play.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years (24 months) demonstrable experience in a childcare or childminding role.
  • Valid Paediatric First Aid certification.
  • An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, updated within the last 12 months or subscribed to the Update Service.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with children and parents.
  • Profound patience, creativity, and a genuine passion for working with children.
  • Proven ability to plan and organize engaging, educational, and fun activities.
  • Solid understanding of early years development stages and child psychology.
  • Strong organizational and time management capabilities to manage multiple children and tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a small group of children effectively.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical application of safeguarding children policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare, Early Years Education, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Experience caring for children with varying needs or diverse age groups simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
  • Proficiency in a second language.
  • Professional references from previous childcare employers or families.
