Career.zycto is on the hunt for a highly skilled and imaginative Cinematographer to join our vibrant creative team based in The Village Market, Nairobi. This pivotal role involves bringing compelling visual stories to life across a diverse range of projects, including corporate videos, brand commercials, short documentaries, social media content, and internal communications. You will be instrumental in shaping the aesthetic and emotional impact of our video productions, working from initial concept development through to final delivery. We are looking for someone with a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of visual composition, lighting, and motion, and an unwavering passion for cinematic excellence. Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with directors, producers, and creative teams to understand project vision and translate concepts into sophisticated visual execution.
  • Operate various professional cinema cameras (e.g., Arri, RED, Sony, Canon C-series), lenses, and associated grip and lighting equipment with expertise.
  • Design and execute sophisticated lighting setups for diverse environments (studio, on-location, interior, exterior) to achieve desired moods and aesthetics.
  • Manage and meticulously maintain camera equipment, ensuring optimal performance, calibration, and troubleshooting technical issues efficiently on set.
  • Scout locations for suitability, meticulously considering factors like light quality, visual composition, and logistical requirements.
  • Oversee camera crew, providing clear direction, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative, efficient, and positive working atmosphere.
  • Adhere strictly to project timelines and budgets, ensuring high-quality output within specified constraints and deadlines.
  • Stay relentlessly updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and cutting-edge cinematic techniques to continuously enhance production value.
  • Contribute valuable insights to post-production discussions, offering expertise on color grading, visual effects, and overall visual polish to achieve final creative goals.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in operating professional cinema cameras and a wide range of lenses (e.g., Arri, RED, Sony FX series, Canon C-series).
  • Expert knowledge of advanced lighting techniques and equipment (LED, HMI, tungsten, practicals) for film and video production.
  • Strong understanding of visual composition, framing, camera movement, and the art of storytelling through imagery.
  • Demonstrable experience with various camera support systems including tripods, gimbals, sliders, dollies, and professional drones.
  • Familiarity with comprehensive production workflows, encompassing pre-production planning, on-set execution, and post-production considerations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to lead a crew and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • A compelling, diverse, and professional portfolio or showreel showcasing previous cinematography work.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, adapt quickly to dynamic production environments, and solve creative and technical challenges on the fly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Film Production, Cinematography, Media Arts, or a closely related creative field.
  • Experience with professional drone operation and aerial cinematography (Part 107 or equivalent certification is a significant advantage).
  • In-depth knowledge of color science, LUTs, and advanced color correction principles.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard post-production software like DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro for review and technical understanding.
  • Previous experience working on projects for major national or international brands or advertising agencies.
  • Multilingual abilities, particularly proficiency in Swahili and English, are a distinct advantage for local productions.
