Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with directors and producers to understand and interpret project vision and creative briefs.
  • Develop and execute visual strategies, including shot lists, storyboards, and camera blocking.
  • Select appropriate cameras, lenses, lighting equipment, and grip gear to achieve desired aesthetic and technical outcomes.
  • Design and implement lighting setups that enhance mood, atmosphere, and subject matter.
  • Operate cameras during principal photography, ensuring optimal exposure, focus, composition, and movement.
  • Lead and manage camera and lighting crews, providing clear direction and fostering a cohesive working environment.
  • Conduct thorough equipment checks and maintenance to ensure functionality and readiness for shoots.
  • Participate in pre-production activities such as location scouting, technical surveys, and creative discussions.
  • Work closely with post-production teams, including editors and colorists, to ensure the final image aligns with the creative vision.
  • Stay updated on the latest cinematography trends, technologies, and equipment advancements.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in operating a wide range of professional film and digital cinema cameras.
  • Profound knowledge of lighting techniques, theory, and equipment for various production scenarios.
  • Strong understanding of visual storytelling principles, composition, and cinematic grammar.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate creative concepts into compelling visual sequences.
  • Familiarity with grip, gaffer, and camera department roles and workflows.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to dynamic on-set environments.
  • Problem-solving capabilities for technical challenges during production.
  • Proficiency in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Film Production, Cinematography, Media Arts, or a related field.
  • Experience with advanced camera systems (e.g., ARRI, RED, Sony Cinema Line) and their associated workflows.
  • Knowledge of DIT (Digital Imaging Technician) processes, color science, and on-set data management.
  • A strong portfolio or reel demonstrating diverse cinematic projects and artistic range.
  • Ability to speak German is a significant plus.
  • Experience with virtual production, LED volumes, or other emerging filmmaking technologies.
