Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Civil Engineer with a strong background in both design and construction to join our esteemed team in Port Louis. This pivotal role involves overseeing the full lifecycle of diverse civil engineering projects, from initial concept and detailed design through to successful on-site execution and completion. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of structural engineering principles, project management methodologies, and an unwavering commitment to quality and safety standards. You will be instrumental in transforming architectural and engineering concepts into tangible structures, ensuring adherence to specifications, budgets, and timelines. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to the structural design and analysis of various civil engineering projects, including buildings, roads, bridges, and drainage systems, utilizing relevant software and engineering principles.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and project reports in compliance with local regulations and international standards.
- Conduct thorough site investigations, feasibility studies, and risk assessments to inform design decisions and construction methodologies.
- Supervise on-site construction activities, ensuring strict adherence to design specifications, quality control standards, and health and safety protocols.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets effectively, reporting progress and addressing potential delays or cost overruns proactively.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project coordination and effective communication.
- Review and approve contractor's submittals, method statements, and shop drawings.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and site staff.
- Perform quality assurance checks and inspections throughout the construction process, ensuring materials and workmanship meet required standards.
- Identify and resolve complex engineering problems and technical challenges that arise during design or construction phases.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in civil engineering design and construction.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and structural analysis software.
- Solid understanding of structural design principles, material properties, and construction techniques.
- Strong knowledge of Mauritian building codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proven project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information clearly.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer (CRPE or equivalent).
- Experience with FIDIC contracts.
- Proficiency in BIM software (e.g., Revit Structure).
- Prior experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects in Mauritius.
