We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Civil Engineer with a strong background in infrastructure and road construction to join a dynamic team in Partick, Glasgow. As a Civil Engineer specialising in Infrastructure & Road Construction, you will play a crucial role in the full project lifecycle, from initial concept and detailed design through to construction supervision and successful delivery. You will be responsible for developing robust engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, codes, and regulations. This role demands a blend of technical expertise, project management acumen, and excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
Key responsibilities will include the preparation of detailed engineering designs for roads, drainage systems, earthworks, and associated civil infrastructure. You will conduct site investigations, feasibility studies, and risk assessments, as well as prepare technical reports, specifications, and contract documents. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in managing multiple projects concurrently, adhering to strict deadlines and budget constraints, while upholding the highest standards of quality and safety. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to the detailed design of road layouts, drainage, earthworks, and other civil infrastructure projects.
- Prepare technical specifications, reports, drawings, and contract documents in accordance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Conduct site visits, surveys, and investigations to inform design decisions and provide construction support.
- Perform engineering calculations, analyses, and simulations to validate designs and ensure structural integrity.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant national and local regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental policies (e.g., DMRB, SUDS guidance).
- Assist in tender evaluations, procurement processes, and contract administration.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources efficiently to ensure successful project delivery.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in civil engineering, specifically in infrastructure and road construction.
- Proficiency in civil engineering design software, such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, or similar.
- Strong understanding of UK design standards and regulations, including DMRB (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges).
- Proven experience in drainage design, earthworks, highway design, and utility coordination.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Valid UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE) or working towards chartership.
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related specialisation.
- Experience with project management software and methodologies.
- Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling) principles and applications.
- Familiarity with ground investigation and geotechnical engineering principles.
