As a Cleaner – School Maintenance specialist, you will take ownership of a comprehensive range of cleaning and minor maintenance duties across diverse school facilities. This includes, but is not limited to, classrooms, administrative offices, bustling hallways, staff common rooms, well-used restrooms, and expansive communal areas. This role transcends mere cleaning; it’s about becoming an integral, observant member of the school community. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, and dusting surfaces in classrooms, offices, and common areas.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, ensuring all facilities are stocked and maintained to a high standard of hygiene.
- Empty waste bins and dispose of refuse appropriately.
- Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaning solutions.
- Replenish supplies such as toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels.
- Report any maintenance issues, damages, or safety hazards to the supervisor promptly.
- Conduct minor repairs or adjustments as needed, such as changing light bulbs or tightening loose fixtures.
- Ensure all cleaning equipment is maintained, stored correctly, and used safely.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations and company policies at all times.
- Assist with setting up/clearing down for school events or activities as required.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and communicate needs to management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in commercial or institutional cleaning, preferably in a school environment.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies, and their safe and proper use.
- Ability to operate various cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners, floor buffers).
- Strong attention to detail and a thorough approach to work.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting (up to 25 lbs), and standing for extended periods.
- Basic understanding of health and safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
- Previous experience specifically in school or educational facility maintenance.
- Familiarity with waste management and recycling procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- First aid certification is a plus.
