As a Clinical Nutritionist at Buff Bay Community Hospital, you will be at the forefront of delivering comprehensive medical nutrition therapy and tailored dietary guidance to individuals across a diverse range of inpatient and outpatient services. Your critical role will encompass the meticulous assessment of patients’ nutritional status, the development of bespoke, evidence-based care plans, and the implementation of targeted interventions designed to optimize health outcomes. You will engage in seamless collaboration with our multidisciplinary team, including physicians, registered nurses, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals, ensuring that nutritional care is perfectly integrated into each patient’s holistic treatment regimen. This will involve addressing a wide spectrum of health challenges, from the management of chronic non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and renal conditions, to supporting recovery in acute care settings, and providing essential nutritional support for maternal and child health programs.

Beyond direct clinical intervention, your responsibilities will extend to empowering patients and their families through education. You will facilitate engaging group education sessions, offer personalized one-on-one counseling, and meticulously develop accessible and culturally sensitive educational materials. These resources will focus on promoting healthy eating habits, effective disease management through diet, and sustainable lifestyle modifications pertinent to our community’s specific needs. Furthermore, you will actively contribute to our continuous quality improvement initiatives, participating in interdisciplinary case conferences, critically reviewing clinical protocols, and maintaining an up-to-date knowledge base of the latest advancements in nutritional science and public health. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments for inpatient and outpatient populations.
  • Develop and implement individualized medical nutrition therapy plans based on patient needs, medical history, and evidence-based guidelines.
  • Provide dietary counseling and education to patients and their families on healthy eating, disease management, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to integrate nutritional care into overall patient treatment plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nutritional interventions, adjusting care plans as necessary.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, grand rounds, and case conferences.
  • Develop and deliver group education sessions and workshops on nutrition-related topics.
  • Contribute to the development and review of clinical protocols and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of nutritional care in patient records.
  • Stay abreast of current research and advancements in nutritional science and public health.
  • Advocate for the importance of nutrition in preventive care and disease management within the hospital and community.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or a related field.
  • Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist status or eligible for registration in Jamaica.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a Nutritionist, preferably in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Strong knowledge of medical nutrition therapy for various health conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, renal disease, gastrointestinal disorders).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in nutritional assessment tools and methods.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Experience with maternal and child health nutrition programs.
  • Familiarity with local food culture and dietary practices in Jamaica.
  • Experience in developing and delivering health education programs.
