Job Description

As a Clinical Psychologist at our centre, you will be instrumental in assessing, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of mental, emotional, and behavioural disorders across various age groups.

Your role will involve developing and implementing tailored, evidence-based treatment plans, utilising a variety of psychotherapeutic techniques to support individuals, couples, and families through their mental health journeys. You will be responsible for conducting thorough psychological evaluations, providing accurate diagnoses, and delivering effective interventions aimed at helping patients improve their coping mechanisms, emotional regulation, and overall quality of life. This position requires close collaboration with general practitioners, medical specialists, and other allied health professionals within our integrated healthcare setting to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, including interviews, observations, and psychometric testing, to formulate accurate diagnoses.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans using evidence-based psychotherapeutic techniques (e.g., CBT, DBT, Psychodynamic Therapy).
  • Provide individual, couple, and family therapy for a diverse range of mental health conditions.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, and other specialists, to ensure integrated patient care.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date patient records in compliance with professional and ethical standards.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of mental health education and awareness programs for patients and the community.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, continuing professional development, and case conferences.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support as needed, referring to external services when appropriate.

Required Skills

  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Current valid registration and practicing certificate with the relevant professional body in Zimbabwe.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification clinical experience in a hospital or private practice setting.
  • Proven experience in psychological assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based psychotherapy.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
  • Strong ethical framework and commitment to patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse patient populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a private medical centre setting.
  • Proficiency in additional local languages (e.g., Shona, Ndebele).
  • Experience in specific areas such as trauma, addiction, or child and adolescent psychology.
  • Active participation in professional psychological associations or groups.
  • Research experience or contributions to the field of psychology.
