Job Description

This role is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to embark on a fulfilling career in public health. As a Community Health Trainee at Career.zycto in Natikiri, Nampula, you will be instrumental in supporting our mission to improve health outcomes and promote well-being within local communities. This full-time position offers comprehensive training and hands-on experience in various aspects of community health, including outreach, education, data collection, and program support. You will work closely with experienced community health workers and project managers, learning best practices in health promotion, disease prevention, and community engagement. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and organizing community health workshops and awareness campaigns on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, maternal and child health, and disease prevention.
  • Conduct household visits and community outreach activities under supervision to disseminate health information and identify individuals needing support.
  • Support community health workers in collecting and maintaining accurate data related to health interventions and community needs.
  • Participate in training sessions and capacity-building activities to enhance knowledge and skills in public health methodologies.
  • Help facilitate communication between community members, local health facilities, and Career.zycto programs.
  • Provide logistical support for community events, including material preparation and venue setup.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, health and safety guidelines, and ethical standards in all community interactions.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Enthusiasm for learning and a proactive attitude
  • Empathy and cultural sensitivity
  • Proficiency in Portuguese (official language of Mozambique)
  • Ability to walk or travel long distances in community settings

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some post-secondary education in health sciences, social work, or related fields is a plus
  • Previous volunteer experience in community development or health initiatives
  • Familiarity with the local culture and dialects of Natikiri, Nampula
  • Basic understanding of public health principles
