Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Compliance Officer to join our robust Legal and Compliance team in Pailles, Port Louis. In an increasingly complex global regulatory landscape, this pivotal role is critical to maintaining MCB’s reputation for integrity and adherence to the highest standards of financial conduct. As a Compliance Officer, you will be instrumental in safeguarding the bank against regulatory risks, ensuring full compliance with local and international laws, regulations, and internal policies related to financial crime prevention (AML/CFT), data protection (GDPR), market conduct, and more. You will be responsible for conducting thorough audits, performing risk assessments, and contributing to the development and implementation of effective compliance programs. This role demands a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret complex regulatory frameworks into actionable strategies. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess regulatory developments, ensuring the bank's policies and procedures are updated to reflect new or amended laws and regulations.
- Conduct periodic compliance risk assessments and audits across various business units to identify areas of non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the bank's compliance framework, including policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Investigate reported compliance breaches, suspicious activities, and incidents, ensuring timely resolution and reporting to relevant authorities.
- Prepare comprehensive compliance reports for senior management and regulatory bodies, outlining findings, recommendations, and compliance status.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to business units on regulatory requirements, best practices, and compliance-related queries.
- Develop and deliver compliance training programs to staff at all levels to foster a culture of compliance throughout the organisation.
- Liaise effectively with external auditors, regulatory authorities (e.g., Bank of Mauritius, Financial Services Commission), and legal advisors.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in a compliance, audit, or risk management role within the financial services sector, preferably in banking.
- In-depth knowledge of Mauritian financial regulations, including AML/CFT laws, Data Protection Act, and Bank of Mauritius directives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French.
- Proven ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory documents.
- High level of integrity, professional ethics, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant professional certifications such as ACAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist), ICA (International Compliance Association), or similar.
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
- Experience with compliance management software and tools.
- Familiarity with international regulatory standards such as FATCA, CRS, and GDPR.
