Job Description

Escola Secundária de Homoine is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Entry-Level Computer Lab Aide to support the effective operation and maintenance of our school’s computer lab. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve maintaining equipment, assisting users with basic technical issues, and ensuring a conducive learning atmosphere in the lab. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide basic technical support to students and staff using the computer lab, assisting with common software applications and hardware issues.
  • Monitor the computer lab during operational hours, ensuring an organized, clean, and productive learning environment.
  • Assist in the routine setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computer hardware, software, and peripherals (printers, scanners, projectors).
  • Install and update software as directed, ensuring all systems are running the latest versions and security patches.
  • Help manage user accounts and access permissions for lab computers.
  • Report more complex technical issues to the appropriate IT personnel for resolution.
  • Maintain an inventory of computer lab equipment and report any damages or malfunctioning items.
  • Educate users on proper computer usage, lab rules, and digital citizenship best practices.
  • Assist with creating and updating documentation for common lab procedures and user guides.
  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed within the computer lab.
  • Assist with data backup procedures as required.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive atmosphere within the school community.

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware and software (Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Familiarity with internet browsers and basic networking concepts.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some post-secondary education in IT or a related field is a plus.
  • Previous experience (even informal) in a technical support role or similar environment.
  • Basic understanding of computer security principles.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and basic English communication skills.
