Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Concrete Finishing Specialist to join our dynamic construction team in Ruwa, Harare Province. As a Concrete Finishing Specialist, you will be responsible for bringing surfaces to a flawless finish, from initial pouring to the final curing stages. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, a deep understanding of concrete properties, and proficiency in using a variety of finishing tools and techniques. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare concrete surfaces by screeding, leveling, and floating to achieve specified grades and finishes.
- Operate and maintain hand and power tools, including floats, trowels, screeds, edgers, and power buggies.
- Apply various concrete finishes such as smooth trowel, broom, and decorative finishes, ensuring high-quality results.
- Control the curing process of concrete to enhance strength, durability, and prevent cracking or surface defects.
- Set up and dismantle formwork for concrete pours, ensuring accurate alignment and structural integrity.
- Inspect finished concrete surfaces for quality, adherence to blueprints, and compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Perform minor repairs and restoration of existing concrete surfaces as needed.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate effectively with site management, engineers, and other tradespeople to ensure project coordination and efficiency.
- Monitor weather conditions and adjust work methods accordingly to optimize concrete setting and curing.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and cared for.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in various concrete finishing techniques (e.g., troweling, floating, brooming).
- Proficiency in operating concrete finishing tools and equipment, both hand and power-operated.
- Strong understanding of concrete properties, mix designs, curing processes, and quality control measures.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction plans.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, defect-free workmanship.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform demanding tasks, often in challenging outdoor conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities to address on-site challenges related to concrete pouring and finishing.
- Knowledge of construction site safety protocols and best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational training or formal certification in concrete technology, masonry, or a related trade.
- Experience with specialized concrete applications such as stamped concrete, polished concrete, or decorative finishes.
- Valid driver's license (Class 2 or 4 an added advantage).
- Current First Aid and safety training certifications.
- Familiarity with local building codes and construction regulations in Zimbabwe.
