Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and meticulously detail-oriented Construction Cost Estimator to join our dynamic team based in Chitungwiza. As a vital member of Masimba Holdings, you will be primarily responsible for preparing accurate, timely, and comprehensive cost estimates for a diverse portfolio of construction projects, ranging from initial conceptual designs to detailed final proposals for both private and public sector clients. This pivotal role demands a keen eye for detail, strong analytical capabilities, and an in-depth understanding of various construction methods, material procurement, labor costs, and relevant regulatory frameworks specific to the Zimbabwean construction landscape. You will play a crucial role in collaborating closely with project managers, site engineers, architects, procurement specialists, and external suppliers to ensure all project costs are thoroughly calculated, potential risks are identified and quantified, and competitive yet profitable bids are consistently submitted. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for various construction projects (commercial, residential, civil infrastructure) by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and other documentation.
- Conduct thorough quantity take-offs for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Obtain and evaluate competitive bids and quotes from subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to fully understand project scope, requirements, and objectives.
- Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and propose value engineering solutions without compromising quality or safety.
- Assess and mitigate financial risks associated with project costs, including unforeseen site conditions, market fluctuations, and regulatory changes.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of estimates, bids, proposals, and actual project costs.
- Participate in project review meetings and provide timely cost updates and forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
- Stay updated with industry trends, material pricing, labor rates, and technological advancements within the Zimbabwean construction sector.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 4 years) as a Construction Cost Estimator or in a similar estimating role within Zimbabwe's construction industry.
- Solid understanding of diverse construction methods, building materials, and relevant local regulations.
- Proficiency in industry-standard estimation software (e.g., BuildSoft, AutoCAD, PlanSwift) and advanced skills in MS Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Exceptional mathematical aptitude and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, technical specifications, and contract documents.
- Meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
- Professional certification or membership with relevant industry bodies (e.g., SAQSP, RICS, CIOB).
- Demonstrable experience with public tender processes and large-scale government-funded projects.
- In-depth familiarity with local Zimbabwean building codes, standards, and regulatory compliance.
