Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled, certified, and safety-conscious Construction Crane Operator to join our dynamic team on a major project site in Gicumbi, Northern Province. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating various types of cranes to lift, move, and precisely position heavy materials and equipment within the construction site with the utmost care and adherence to all safety protocols. This critical role requires an individual with an excellent understanding of crane mechanics, comprehensive knowledge of load charts, expertise in rigging techniques, and exceptional site communication skills. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient flow of materials, optimizing logistical operations, and contributing significantly to the overall progress and timely completion of our construction efforts. Key Responsibilities
- Operate overhead, mobile, or tower cranes to safely lift, move, and place materials, equipment, or components.
- Perform daily pre-operation and post-operation inspections of the crane, rigging equipment, and all safety devices, ensuring all components are in good working order and promptly reporting any defects or malfunctions.
- Interpret and understand complex load charts, lifting plans, and standard hand signals to execute all lifts safely, efficiently, and within operational limits.
- Coordinate effectively with ground crews, riggers, signal persons, and supervisors using two-way radios or clear hand signals to ensure synchronized and safe operations.
- Ensure the safe and efficient movement of materials to designated areas on the construction site, minimizing risks to personnel and property.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, national industry regulations, operational procedures, and environmental guidelines.
- Maintain accurate and detailed logbooks and records of crane operations, inspections, maintenance activities, and any incidents.
- Assist in routine preventative maintenance and perform minor repairs of crane machinery as required, ensuring optimal performance.
- Secure the crane and all associated equipment at the end of each shift, during breaks, or in adverse weather conditions.
- Actively participate in site safety briefings, toolbox talks, and all mandatory safety training sessions.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Construction Crane Operator (minimum 5 years).
- Valid Crane Operator certification from a recognized and accredited institution.
- Demonstrated knowledge of various crane types, controls, and advanced safety systems.
- Proficiency in accurately reading and interpreting load charts, lifting plans, and technical specifications.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, exceptional depth perception, and strong spatial awareness.
- Superior communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Unwavering commitment to strict safety practices, procedures, and site regulations.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform duties in various weather conditions and demanding environments.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting minor issues and performing routine maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with multiple types of cranes (e.g., lattice boom, hydraulic, tower cranes).
- Additional heavy equipment operator certifications (e.g., excavator, bulldozer).
- First Aid and Basic Life Support certification.
- Previous experience working on large-scale infrastructure or industrial projects.
- Ability to communicate effectively in Kinyarwanda or Swahili.
