Job Description
Shebox Construction is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and experienced Construction Estimator to join our dynamic team in Gweru, Midlands Province. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects by meticulously analyzing blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other related documents.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to fully understand project scope, requirements, and client expectations.
- Solicit and review competitive quotes from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers for materials, equipment, and services.
- Perform accurate quantity take-offs and develop comprehensive material, labor, and equipment cost breakdowns.
- Assess potential risks and opportunities associated with each project, incorporating them into estimates and developing contingency plans.
- Develop and present compelling bid proposals and presentations to clients, clearly articulating project scope and costs.
- Maintain and update an organized database of estimating data, including historical costs, vendor information, and current market prices.
- Participate actively in pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits to gain a thorough understanding of existing conditions and potential project challenges.
- Ensure all estimates comply with company standards, relevant industry regulations, and client expectations for quality and safety.
- Continuously research and apply new methodologies, technologies, and pricing structures to improve estimation accuracy and efficiency.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 5 years) as a Construction Estimator, preferably within a general contracting or civil engineering environment.
- Strong proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., Buildertrend, PlanSwift, B2W Estimate, or similar industry-leading platforms).
- Expertise in reading, interpreting, and analyzing complex blueprints, specifications, and project drawings.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with a meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, local building codes, and safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects concurrently, and prioritize tasks effectively within flexible hours.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for cost analysis and data management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a closely related field.
- Professional certification in estimating (e.g., AACE International, ASPE) or project management.
- Experience with design-build projects and value engineering principles.
- Familiarity with local Zimbabwean construction market conditions, material sourcing, and supplier networks.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
