Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Foreman to join our dedicated team in Nairobi. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with a proven track record of successfully overseeing construction projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to project specifications, safety standards, and budgetary constraints. This is a critical leadership role that demands exceptional organizational skills, the ability to manage diverse teams effectively, and a deep understanding of construction methodologies and safety protocols. The Construction Foreman will be the backbone of our on-site operations, directly responsible for coordinating daily activities, allocating resources, and resolving any issues that may arise to keep projects on track. Your expertise will be vital in maintaining high-quality workmanship, fostering a productive work environment, and ensuring that all project milestones are met safely and efficiently. Key Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise and coordinate the activities of construction workers, including labourers, craftspeople, and other on-site personnel.
  • Plan and prepare daily work schedules, allocate tasks, and ensure that all team members are aware of their responsibilities and project goals.
  • Monitor project progress to ensure adherence to blueprints, specifications, and construction schedules, identifying potential delays and implementing corrective actions.
  • Implement and enforce strict safety regulations and procedures on the job site, conducting regular safety briefings and ensuring all workers comply with health and safety standards.
  • Inspect work in progress and completed work to ensure quality standards are met, identifying and rectifying any deficiencies promptly.
  • Operate and oversee the maintenance of construction equipment and tools, ensuring they are in good working order and used safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily progress, labour hours, material usage, and equipment logs.
  • Act as a primary point of contact between the project manager, engineers, and on-site crew, communicating instructions and reporting on site conditions and progress.
  • Resolve on-site conflicts or issues among workers, promoting a positive and productive work environment.
  • Order and manage materials and supplies, ensuring their timely delivery and proper storage to avoid waste and maintain project flow.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of verifiable experience as a Construction Foreman or a similar supervisory role in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and manage diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and enforce strict safety protocols and procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications for record-keeping and reporting (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Physical fitness and ability to work in various weather conditions and demanding construction environments.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building Technology, or a related field.
  • OSHA or equivalent safety certification.
  • Experience with project management software.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Fluent in both English and Swahili.
