A Construction Material Carrier plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of materials to and from construction sites. You will be responsible for the safe loading, unloading, and transportation of various construction materials, ranging from aggregates and lumber to specialized equipment, using appropriate vehicles and tools. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, a strong commitment to safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced outdoor environment, often under varying weather conditions. You will collaborate closely with site supervisors, project managers, and other crew members to coordinate deliveries and material handling, ensuring that all supplies are available exactly when and where they are needed. Key Responsibilities
- Safely load, unload, and transport a wide array of construction materials, tools, and equipment to designated sites.
- Operate various material handling equipment, including but not limited to forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand carts, following all safety guidelines.
- Secure loads properly to prevent shifting or damage during transit, adhering to all transportation regulations.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any defects or maintenance needs promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of materials moved, deliveries made, and inventory levels.
- Communicate effectively with site managers, supervisors, and team members regarding material needs, delivery schedules, and potential delays.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, provincial transportation laws, and construction site regulations.
- Assist with general site clean-up and organization as required, ensuring a tidy and safe working environment.
- Conduct routine checks on material quality and report any discrepancies or damages.
- Navigate construction sites and local roads efficiently and safely.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a material handler or carrier in a construction or industrial setting (minimum 6 months).
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment (certification preferred).
- Strong physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly and perform strenuous tasks in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in understanding and following safety procedures and guidelines.
- Basic understanding of construction materials and their handling requirements.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Forklift operator certification.
- Experience with securing oversized or specialized loads.
- Knowledge of local Lloydminster and Saskatchewan road networks.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience operating larger commercial vehicles (e.g., Class 3 with air brake endorsement) is an asset.
