Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a diligent and physically capable Construction Site Assistant – Material Handler to join a dynamic construction project team located in the vibrant Lekki Conservation Centre area of Lekki, Lagos. As a Material Handler, you will be the backbone of our site operations, ensuring that all necessary construction materials are received, organized, stored, and distributed efficiently and safely to various work zones. Your role is crucial for maintaining project timelines, preventing material shortages, and supporting the overall productivity of our skilled tradespeople. You will work closely with site supervisors, foremen, and other team members, playing a vital part in maintaining an organized and hazard-free construction site. Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and log incoming construction materials and equipment, verifying quantities against delivery manifests.
  • Safely unload materials from delivery vehicles using appropriate tools and techniques (e.g., manual lifting, pallet jacks, forklifts if certified).
  • Organize and store materials in designated laydown areas, warehouses, or storage containers, ensuring proper labeling and accessibility.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of materials on-site, conducting regular stock checks and reporting discrepancies.
  • Distribute materials to various work areas on the construction site as requested by supervisors or tradespeople, minimizing downtime.
  • Operate basic construction equipment and tools safely and effectively as required for material handling.
  • Assist with general site clean-up and organization, ensuring a tidy and safe working environment.
  • Adhere strictly to all company and site-specific safety regulations and procedures.
  • Report any damaged materials, equipment malfunctions, or safety hazards to the site supervisor immediately.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and external vendors.

Required Skills

  • Proven physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Strong understanding of construction site safety protocols and best practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail for inventory management.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic communication skills to interact with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience (6 months – 1 year) in a construction, warehouse, or material handling role.
  • Valid forklift operator certification (an asset but not mandatory).
  • Familiarity with various construction materials and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory management systems or methods.
