Job Description

Mkhathini Contractors (Pty) Ltd is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Worker to join our dynamic team in Harrismith, Free State. This full-time, on-site role is critical for the successful execution of our diverse construction projects across the region. As a Skilled Construction Worker, you will be instrumental in performing various construction and maintenance tasks, requiring proficiency in multiple trades and a strong understanding of construction processes. You will work under the supervision of project managers and foremen, collaborating closely with other team members to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Your expertise will be vital in tasks ranging from foundational work and structural assembly to finishing touches, demonstrating a keen eye for detail and a commitment to precision. Key Responsibilities

  • Execute a wide range of skilled construction tasks, including but not limited to bricklaying, plastering, carpentry, concrete work, and basic plumbing/electrical installations.
  • Operate various hand and power tools safely and effectively, maintaining them in good working order.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings to ensure accurate project execution.
  • Prepare construction sites by cleaning, excavating, and setting up scaffolding or temporary structures.
  • Assist in the erection of steel structures, framework, and formwork for concrete pours.
  • Mix and pour concrete, mortar, and other construction materials according to specifications.
  • Perform basic maintenance and repairs on existing structures.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other tradespeople to ensure project cohesion and progress.
  • Report any safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or project delays promptly to the site supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Participate in daily toolbox talks and safety briefings.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in various construction trades (e.g., bricklaying, plastering, carpentry, concrete work).
  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and plans.
  • Proficiency in operating hand and power tools safely.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and safety procedures.
  • Excellent physical stamina and strength, with the ability to perform strenuous tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of site safety protocols and PPE requirements.
  • Valid South African ID or work permit.
  • Reliable transport to and from the worksite in Harrismith.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant NQF Level 2/3 certificate or trade qualification in a construction-related field.
  • Valid driver's license (Code B or C1).
  • Experience operating heavy machinery (e.g., TLB, skid steer) with relevant certification.
  • First Aid and/or Basic Fire Fighting certification.
  • Previous experience working on diverse construction projects (residential, commercial, industrial).
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and/or isiZulu/Sesotho.
