Job Description

King’s Palace Restaurant & Bar is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Cook to join our dynamic and close-knit kitchen team in the vibrant community of Frankfield, Clarendon. As a vital member of our culinary brigade, you will be instrumental in preparing a diverse range of our signature Jamaican dishes, from succulent stew peas and hearty oxtail to perfectly fried fish, fragrant rice and peas, and an array of other beloved local delicacies. Your role will encompass all aspects of food preparation, from meticulous ingredient mise en place, precise cooking techniques, to the artful plating of each dish, ensuring every item consistently meets our exacting high standards of taste, presentation, and hygiene. You will work closely and collaboratively with the Head Chef and other experienced kitchen staff, contributing actively to a harmonious, efficient, and impeccably clean kitchen operation.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of authentic Jamaican dishes, appetizers, and desserts according to established recipes and quality standards.
- Assist in the precise preparation of ingredients (e.g., chopping, dicing, marinating, seasoning) to ensure maximum efficiency during service.
- Operate and maintain a range of kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring their longevity and proper function.
- Ensure proper portion control and actively work to minimize food waste, contributing to cost-effectiveness.
- Monitor food inventory levels, conduct stock checks, and communicate procurement needs to the Head Chef proactively.
- Adhere strictly to all food safety and sanitation regulations and guidelines (including HACCP principles) at all times.
- Maintain a consistently clean, organized, and hygienic workstation, contributing to overall kitchen cleanliness and order.
- Collaborate effectively and professionally with other kitchen staff and front-of-house team members to ensure seamless service.
- Manage multiple orders simultaneously and work efficiently and calmly during peak service hours.
- Contribute to menu development, special promotions, and daily specials as requested by the Head Chef.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Cook in a restaurant or similar high-volume food service environment.
- Strong, in-depth knowledge of Jamaican cuisine, traditional recipes, and cooking techniques.
- Proficiency in various cooking methods including frying, braising, stewing, grilling, and baking.
- Excellent knife skills and the ability to perform basic and advanced food preparation tasks accurately.
- Thorough understanding and strict adherence to food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Ability to work effectively, efficiently, and calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to consistently high-quality output.
- Physical stamina and the ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy items, and perform repetitive tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Culinary arts diploma or certification from a recognized culinary institution.
- Experience with inventory management and food ordering procedures.
- Basic understanding of kitchen management software or point-of-sale (POS) systems.
- Familiarity with local Jamaican food suppliers and seasonal produce.
- Ability to speak and understand Jamaican Patois is considered a valuable asset.
