As a Credit Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in evaluating the creditworthiness of potential and existing clients, assessing financial risks, and providing informed, data-backed recommendations that directly impact our lending portfolio’s health, profitability, and compliance. You will delve deep into financial statements, market trends, industry-specific data, and macroeconomic factors to construct comprehensive credit proposals and risk assessments. You will be responsible for preparing detailed, well-structured credit reports, conducting thorough financial modeling, and engaging collaboratively with relationship managers and clients to gather necessary information, clarify financial positions, and understand business operations. Monitoring loan portfolios for compliance with established terms and conditions, identifying early warning signs of potential default, and recommending appropriate mitigating actions will also be core aspects of your daily activities. Furthermore, you will be instrumental in ensuring strict adherence to the bank’s robust credit policies, internal procedures, and all relevant regulatory frameworks, including those stipulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis of client applications, including financial statements, cash flow projections, and collateral assessments.
  • Prepare detailed credit reports and proposals with clear recommendations on lending decisions.
  • Assess and mitigate credit risk for various lending products and client segments.
  • Monitor existing loan portfolios, identify early warning signals of potential default, and recommend appropriate remedial actions.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the bank’s credit policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., CBN guidelines).
  • Collaborate effectively with relationship managers, clients, and other internal stakeholders to gather necessary information and facilitate credit processes.
  • Participate in credit committee meetings, presenting and defending credit proposals.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes impacting credit risk.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of credit risk management frameworks and processes.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in financial modeling and analysis.
  • Excellent understanding of credit risk principles, financial products, and banking operations.
  • Proven ability to interpret financial statements and economic data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CFA, ACCA, FRM).
  • Experience with credit analysis software or risk management systems.
  • Knowledge of local and international financial regulations and compliance.
  • Experience in a similar role within a commercial bank or financial institution.
  • Postgraduate degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field.
