Job Description

We are seeking a diligent, highly analytical, and experienced Credit Analyst to join our esteemed Lending & Credit Review team in Port Louis. This pivotal role involves conducting thorough financial analysis, assessing creditworthiness, and managing the ongoing review of our diverse loan portfolio, which includes corporate, SME, and individual clients. You will play a crucial part in mitigating credit risk, ensuring the quality and integrity of our lending decisions, and contributing significantly to the strategic growth of MCB’s client base.

You will collaborate closely with relationship managers, risk management specialists, and legal teams to support informed credit decisions and maintain a robust and compliant credit culture within the bank. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis of corporate, SME, and individual clients, including detailed reviews of income statements, balance sheets, cash flow projections, and relevant industry trends.
  • Prepare robust credit proposals and detailed review reports, meticulously evaluating credit risk, repayment capacity, and collateral adequacy for both new and existing loan facilities.
  • Monitor assigned loan portfolios regularly to identify early warning signs of credit deterioration, recommend proactive measures, and ensure strict adherence to credit policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and present well-justified credit recommendations to senior management and credit committees, effectively defending lending decisions based on thorough analysis and due diligence.
  • Engage in comprehensive due diligence processes, including site visits and client meetings, as required, to gather accurate and pertinent information for credit assessment.
  • Stay abreast of evolving economic conditions, market trends, and regulatory changes impacting the banking and financial services sector in Mauritius and the region.
  • Contribute actively to the continuous improvement of credit assessment methodologies, tools, and internal processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in credit analysis, financial analysis, or a closely related role within the banking or financial services industry.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS), and advanced financial modeling techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for complex data analysis and financial analysis software.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both English and French, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Sound knowledge of credit risk management principles, banking products, and local banking regulations (Bank of Mauritius guidelines).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative member of a high-performing team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A relevant professional qualification such as CFA, ACCA, CPA, or a similar certification.
  • Prior experience with credit rating models, risk assessment tools, or loan portfolio management systems.
  • Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
