Job Description
Dairibord Zimbabwe Limited is seeking an experienced and meticulously organized Credit Controller to join our dynamic finance team based in Chitungwiza, Harare Province. This critical role is essential for maintaining healthy cash flow, minimizing bad debt risk, and ensuring the financial stability of our extensive operations. The Credit Controller will be responsible for the end-to-end management of the company’s debtor’s ledger, encompassing everything from initial credit assessment and setting appropriate credit limits for new and existing clients, to the proactive collection of outstanding debts and the swift resolution of any associated queries or disputes. You will play a pivotal role in the consistent enforcement of our credit policies, conducting regular and thorough reconciliations, and providing insightful, accurate reports to senior management. The ideal candidate will possess a strong and demonstrable understanding of financial principles, exceptional communication and negotiation skills, and a proven track record of success in a similar fast-paced environment, preferably within the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector. We are looking for a proactive, results-oriented individual who can adeptly balance superior customer service with stringent credit control practices, ensuring all processes comply with company policies, industry best practices, and relevant regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the company’s debtor’s ledger, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely updates of all customer accounts.
- Implement, adhere to, and consistently enforce the company’s credit control policy and procedures across all transactions.
- Conduct thorough credit risk assessments for both new and existing customers, recommending and setting appropriate credit limits.
- Proactively contact customers via phone, email, and scheduled visits to collect outstanding debts in a professional and diplomatic manner.
- Perform regular and detailed reconciliations of customer accounts, identify and resolve billing discrepancies, and process credit notes as required.
- Prepare and analyze comprehensive debtor’s reports, including aging reports, collection forecasts, and bad debt provisions for management review.
- Collaborate closely with the sales, logistics, and customer service departments to efficiently resolve customer queries and disputes.
- Initiate and manage legal action for debt recovery when necessary, in close consultation with management and legal advisors.
- Ensure all collections and credit control activities comply with relevant financial regulations, statutory requirements, and company policies.
- Assist in the preparation of accurate cash flow forecasts and contribute to the budgeting process.
- Maintain meticulous records of all customer interactions, collection activities, and credit decisions.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in debt collection and credit control management.
- Strong reconciliation skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- A professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, CIS, or equivalent.
- Experience working within the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry.
- Knowledge of local Zimbabwean financial regulations and credit practices.
