Key Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate, empathetic, and confidential crisis intervention and emotional support to individuals.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments to determine the level of threat to self or others and develop safety plans.
  • De-escalate intense emotional situations through active listening and non-judgmental communication.
  • Connect clients with appropriate internal and external mental health services, social support, and community resources.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records and documentation in accordance with professional standards.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and external partners to ensure comprehensive client care.
  • Participate in regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development trainings.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Exceptional active listening and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.
  • Proficiency in both German (C1 level minimum) and English (B2 level minimum).
  • Solid understanding of mental health disorders, substance abuse, and trauma.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality and ethical boundaries.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Certification in specific crisis management methodologies (e.g., CISM, Psychological First Aid).
  • Experience working with diverse populations and understanding of cultural sensitivities.
  • Familiarity with the social services and mental health landscape in Berlin.
  • Prior experience in a community mental health setting or crisis hotline.
