Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically fit Crop Irrigation Assistant to join our agricultural team in Petersfield, Westmoreland. In this vital full-time role, you will be instrumental in ensuring our crops receive optimal hydration, contributing directly to their health, yield, and quality. The Crop Irrigation Assistant will work under the supervision of the Farm Manager or Lead Agronomist, performing a variety of tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and operation of irrigation systems. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of various irrigation systems (e.g., drip, sprinkler, pivot systems) across different crop fields.
- Monitor and inspect irrigation lines, pumps, filters, and other equipment for proper functioning, identifying and reporting any faults or blockages promptly.
- Operate irrigation equipment and machinery safely and efficiently, ensuring correct water application rates and schedules.
- Conduct routine checks of soil moisture levels using appropriate tools and techniques to inform irrigation decisions.
- Observe crop health and growth patterns, reporting any signs of water stress, disease, or pest infestation to supervisors.
- Assist with manual tasks such as digging trenches, laying pipes, moving hoses, and general farm labor as required.
- Maintain accurate records of irrigation activities, water usage, equipment maintenance, and field observations.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and agricultural best practices, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Collaborate effectively with other farm team members to ensure smooth and coordinated operations, fostering teamwork and shared goals.

Preferred Qualifications

- Knowledge of basic plumbing or mechanical maintenance related to irrigation.
- Valid Jamaican driver's license (Class C or higher).
- Certification in agricultural practices or irrigation techniques.
