Career.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Curator Assistant to join our vibrant team in Hildesheim, Lower Saxony. As a Curator Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our curatorial staff, ensuring the meticulous care, documentation, and presentation of our diverse collections. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough research on collection objects, artists, historical contexts, and exhibition themes under the guidance of senior curators.
- Assist in the preparation of exhibition proposals, didactic materials, labels, catalogues, and digital content.
- Support the logistical planning and installation of exhibitions, including object handling, display preparation, and de-installation.
- Maintain accurate collection records, including cataloguing, photography, and inventory management within our database systems.
- Facilitate communication and coordination between curatorial, conservation, registration, and exhibition design teams.
- Assist with condition reporting, object movement, and environmental monitoring for collection care.
- Respond to research inquiries from scholars, the public, and internal departments.
- Participate in departmental meetings, offering insights and contributing to strategic planning.
- Provide administrative support to the curatorial department as needed, including scheduling, correspondence, and report generation.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Archaeology, History, or a related field.
- Demonstrable experience with museum collection management systems (e.g., TMS, EMu).
- Strong research, writing, and editing skills in German and English.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Understanding of best practices in object handling and collection care.
- Legal eligibility to work in Germany.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Prior internship or professional experience (1-2 years) in a museum, gallery, or cultural institution.
