In this pivotal role, you will be the cornerstone of our client’s international trade operations, ensuring seamless customs clearance for a diverse range of goods entering and exiting the European Union. As a Customs Broker, you will be instrumental in advising clients on customs regulations, duties, and taxes, ensuring full compliance with both national and international laws. Your daily tasks will involve preparing and submitting customs declarations, classifying goods according to tariff codes, and managing all necessary documentation with utmost precision. You will act as the primary liaison with customs authorities, resolving any discrepancies or queries promptly and effectively. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit accurate customs declarations (import, export, transit) in compliance with German and EU regulations.
  • Classify goods according to the Harmonized System (HS) and EU TARIC codes, ensuring correct duty and tax assessment.
  • Advise clients on customs procedures, tariffs, free trade agreements, and specific country requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with customs authorities, freight forwarders, and clients to resolve customs-related issues.
  • Maintain thorough and organized records of all customs documentation and communication.
  • Stay updated on changes in customs legislation, trade agreements, and international shipping regulations.
  • Proactively identify and address potential customs compliance risks and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Process customs duties and taxes, and manage any duty drawback or refund claims.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Customs Broker, Customs Declarer, or similar role (minimum 4 years).
  • In-depth knowledge of German and EU customs laws, regulations, and procedures (Zollrecht, UZK).
  • Proficiency in customs software (e.g., ATLAS) and standard office applications (MS Office Suite).
  • Excellent analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills in German and English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities and a proactive approach to challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant professional certification in customs or international trade.
  • Knowledge of specific industry regulations (e.g., automotive, chemicals, perishables).
  • Additional language skills (e.g., French, Polish, Czech).
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
