Job Description

Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Customs Broker to join our dynamic team in Westminster, London. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit accurate customs declarations for import and export shipments in accordance with HMRC regulations and international trade laws.
  • Classify goods using appropriate commodity codes (HS Codes) and determine applicable duties, taxes, and tariffs.
  • Advise clients on customs procedures, documentation requirements, tariff classifications, and duty relief schemes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of customs legislation, trade agreements (e.g., FTA, CETA, UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement), and regulatory changes.
  • Liaise effectively with HMRC, port authorities, shipping lines, and clients to resolve customs queries and facilitate smooth clearance processes.
  • Manage and resolve customs-related discrepancies, appeals, and compliance issues.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of duties and taxes, and manage deferment accounts where applicable.
  • Provide expert guidance on complex customs issues, including origin rules, valuation, and special procedures.
  • Maintain meticulous records and documentation for audit purposes.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience as a Customs Broker or in a similar customs compliance role.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK customs regulations, procedures, and relevant international trade laws.
  • Proficiency in customs declaration software and HMRC systems (e.g., CHIEF, CDS).
  • Strong understanding of commodity classification (HS Codes) and customs valuation principles.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of liaising with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities and a proactive approach to challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional qualification in Customs Compliance, International Trade, or Logistics (e.g., BIFA, CILT).
  • Experience with a variety of goods and industry sectors.
  • Familiarity with AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) requirements and processes.
  • Proficiency in additional languages relevant to international trade.
  • Experience with customs auditing and risk management.
