Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Cybersecurity Compliance Officer to join our remote team. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in safeguarding TELUS’s information assets and ensuring our operations adhere to the highest standards of cybersecurity compliance. Working remotely, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring compliance programs that align with relevant industry regulations, legal frameworks, and internal policies. This position requires a proactive individual with a deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, regulatory requirements, and risk management. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive cybersecurity compliance programs, policies, and procedures aligned with organizational goals and external regulations.
- Conduct regular internal audits, assessments, and vulnerability scans to ensure continuous adherence to regulatory requirements (e.g., PIPEDA, GDPR), industry standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST), and internal security policies.
- Monitor changes in cybersecurity laws, regulations, and industry best practices, proactively updating company policies and controls to maintain full compliance.
- Provide expert guidance and support to various business units on compliance-related matters, risk mitigation strategies, and security best practices.
- Oversee and manage the risk assessment process, identifying potential compliance gaps, evaluating their impact, and developing effective remediation strategies.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely compliance reports to senior management, regulatory bodies, and external auditors as required.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with legal, IT, privacy, and other departments to ensure consistent application of security controls and compliance requirements across all business operations.
- Develop and deliver engaging cybersecurity awareness training programs for employees at all levels to foster a strong security culture.
- Participate in incident response activities, ensuring that all compliance aspects are thoroughly addressed during and after security incidents.
- Manage third-party vendor security assessments, ensuring that partners and suppliers comply with TELUS's stringent security and data protection standards.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in cybersecurity compliance, governance, risk management, or audit roles.
- Strong understanding and practical application of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and COBIT.
- In-depth knowledge of data privacy regulations including PIPEDA and GDPR, and their implications for telecommunications.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating complex technical and compliance issues for diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines effectively in a dynamic remote work environment.
- Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies, control implementation, and remediation planning.
- Familiarity with cloud security principles and compliance requirements across major platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CISA, CISM, CRISC.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Direct experience in the telecommunications or other highly regulated industries.
- Familiarity with project management principles and tools to oversee compliance initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive organizational change through compliance initiatives.
- Experience with GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) platforms and tools.
