CBZ Bank is seeking a dedicated and experienced Data Governance Specialist to join our dynamic team in Beitbridge, Matabeleland South Province. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Define and monitor data quality metrics and processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data across the bank.
  • Establish clear data ownership, stewardship, and accountability roles within various business units.
  • Collaborate with business and IT teams to identify critical data elements and define metadata management strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations (e.g., PoPIA, GDPR where applicable to international data flows, and local Zimbabwean privacy laws).
  • Facilitate and actively participate in Data Governance Committee meetings, providing insights and driving decision-making.
  • Conduct regular data audits and assessments to identify gaps in data governance and recommend improvements.
  • Provide training and awareness programs to educate staff on data governance best practices, policies, and their roles in maintaining data integrity.
  • Support the development and maintenance of data dictionaries, glossaries, and data lineage documentation.
  • Work with security teams to ensure data privacy and security measures are effectively integrated into data governance practices.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in data governance, data quality, or data management roles.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK), and best practices.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and experience with data quality tools and methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of database concepts, SQL, and data warehousing principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex data concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments and influence stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to data management and privacy in the financial sector.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, or a related field.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CDMP – Certified Data Management Professional).
  • Experience working within the banking or financial services industry.
  • Familiarity with master data management (MDM) concepts and tools.
  • Project management experience in data-related initiatives.
