Career.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Database Administrator, Company Systems to join our growing team in Garissa County. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of our various company databases. As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of our database systems, from design and implementation to maintenance and troubleshooting. You will work closely with our IT and operations teams to understand data requirements, implement best practices, and develop robust solutions that enhance system reliability and efficiency. Your expertise will be crucial in safeguarding sensitive information, ensuring data availability, and supporting the continuous improvement of our internal and external facing applications. Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain database servers and systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server).
  • Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure optimal operation.
  • Perform regular database backups, recovery procedures, and ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Implement and maintain database security policies, access controls, and data encryption measures.
  • Develop, manage, and test database schemas, stored procedures, and triggers.
  • Collaborate with developers and system administrators to optimize database queries and application performance.
  • Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and patches.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and company policies.
  • Document database architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal teams regarding database-related matters.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator or similar role.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
  • In-depth knowledge of database design, normalization, and optimization techniques.
  • Experience with database security best practices and data encryption.
  • Proficiency in database backup, recovery, and replication strategies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Certifications in database administration (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate).
  • Experience with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
