Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Database Developer to join our dynamic IT team at our Kwekwe operations. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining our critical database systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and data integrity. This role is crucial for supporting various business functions, including production, finance, human resources, and supply chain. You will work closely with other developers, system administrators, and business users to understand requirements, translate them into robust database solutions, and provide ongoing support and optimization. Your expertise will directly impact our operational efficiency and decision-making capabilities, contributing to Zimasco’s continued success and technological evolution in the mining and manufacturing sectors. We are looking for a proactive problem-solver with a strong understanding of database architecture and a passion for data excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement new databases, data schemas, and data models to support business applications.
- Write, optimize, and tune complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers for performance and efficiency.
- Maintain existing database systems, ensuring data integrity, availability, and security.
- Perform database backup, recovery, and replication strategies to safeguard critical data.
- Monitor database performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions for optimal operation.
- Collaborate with application developers to integrate database solutions with business applications.
- Develop and maintain ETL processes for data warehousing and business intelligence initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with data governance policies and industry best practices for data security and privacy.
- Provide technical support and guidance to end-users on database-related matters.
- Document database designs, configurations, and operational procedures.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in SQL (Structured Query Language)
- Extensive experience with at least one major RDBMS (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
- Strong understanding of database design principles, data modeling, and normalization techniques
- Experience with performance tuning and optimization of database queries and systems
- Knowledge of database security best practices and data encryption methods
- Familiarity with database backup, recovery, and replication strategies
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate complex technical concepts clearly
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate).
- Experience with cloud-based database services (e.g., Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS).
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL tools.
- Knowledge of scripting languages like Python or PowerShell for database automation.
- Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) is a plus.
