Key Responsibilities
- Operate delivery trucks safely and efficiently on assigned routes.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting any issues or maintenance needs.
- Load and unload goods, ensuring secure transportation and proper handling to prevent damage.
- Verify accuracy of cargo against delivery manifests, obtain necessary signatures, and process paperwork efficiently.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal traffic laws and regulations, as well as company safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, vehicle records, and other required documentation.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with dispatch, customers, and team members regarding delivery status, delays, or issues.
- Handle and transport various types of goods with utmost care, minimizing the risk of damage or loss.
- Assist with route planning and optimization when necessary, using GPS and traffic information to ensure timely deliveries.
- Keep the vehicle clean, organized, and presentable at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid Class C (or equivalent German) driving license with a clean driving record.
- Minimum of 1 year of proven experience as a professional delivery truck driver.
- Ability to safely lift and move heavy packages (up to 25 kg) regularly.
- Strong knowledge of local traffic laws, road safety regulations, and geographical knowledge of Essen and surrounding areas.
- Excellent time management, organizational, and route planning skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a cooperative team.
- Good communication and customer service skills for effective interactions.
- Physical fitness and stamina to handle long hours of driving and manual loading/unloading tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with GPS navigation and route optimization software.
- Forklift certification or experience operating pallet jacks.
- Experience with various types of delivery vehicles (e.g., box trucks, vans).
- First Aid certification or basic emergency response training.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for minor vehicle troubleshooting.
