Job Description

Are you an experienced and compassionate care professional with a passion for supporting individuals living with dementia, particularly during the night? Career.zycto is seeking a dedicated Dementia Care Lead Coordinator for a vital night shift role in West Bromwich, Birmingham. This pivotal position involves overseeing and coordinating the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care for residents during the evening and early morning hours, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being.

As a Dementia Care Lead Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a calm, reassuring, and therapeutic environment throughout the night. You will lead a small team of night carers, providing guidance, support, and mentorship, while also directly engaging in care delivery. This role requires exceptional observational skills to monitor residents’ conditions, respond promptly to any changes or needs, and manage any challenging behaviours that may arise due to dementia with empathy and skill. Your ability to anticipate needs, implement care plans effectively, and communicate clearly with both staff and day shift coordinators will be paramount.

We are looking for someone who understands the unique challenges and rewards of night shift work in a dementia care setting. You should be proactive, resilient, and possess a deep understanding of dementia care best practices, including non-pharmacological interventions, sensory support, and effective communication techniques. This is an opportunity to make a profound difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals, providing them with dignity, respect, and a sense of security during often disorienting hours. If you are ready to step into a leadership role where your expertise in dementia care and your commitment to excellence can truly shine, we encourage you to apply.

  • Provide direct personal care, emotional support, and assistance with mobility as required.
  • Monitor residents' health and well-being throughout the night, accurately documenting observations and reporting any concerns.
  • Respond effectively and compassionately to challenging behaviours, wandering, or distress from residents.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment, including conducting regular safety checks.
  • Act as a point of contact for staff, residents, and emergency services during the night shift.
  • Liaise with day shift coordinators and relevant healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provide mentorship and support to junior care staff, promoting best practices in dementia care.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of care provided, incidents, and communications.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a care setting, with at least 1 year in a senior or lead role.

  • Strong leadership and team supervision abilities.

  • Ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency in medication administration and documentation.
  • Understanding of CQC standards and best practices in care.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for elderly care.
  • Flexibility to work night shifts on a consistent basis.
