Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and support the night care team, ensuring effective delegation of duties and adherence to care plans.
  • Provide expert, person-centred care to residents living with dementia, addressing their physical, emotional, and social needs during the night.
  • Oversee medication management, ensure accurate record-keeping, and handle any urgent health concerns with appropriate clinical judgment.
  • Conduct regular welfare checks on residents, respond promptly to calls, and manage any incidents or emergencies effectively and calmly.
  • Act as a point of contact for families and external healthcare professionals during the night, providing clear and sensitive communication.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of care provided, identify areas for improvement, and implement best practices in dementia care.
  • Mentor and train new and existing staff, fostering a supportive environment that encourages professional development and teamwork.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, company policies, and health and safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with day shift supervisors to ensure seamless handover and continuity of care.

Required Skills

  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
  • At least 4 years of experience in a care setting, with significant experience in dementia care.
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a care environment, preferably in a night shift role.
  • Excellent understanding of dementia care principles, best practices, and person-centred approaches.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and manage challenging situations with empathy.
  • Proficiency in medication administration and accurate record-keeping.
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuous professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care or higher.
  • Specialist training or certification in dementia care.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Experience with care planning software and digital record-keeping systems.
