Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, empathetic, and detail-oriented Dental Assistant to join our thriving practice at Dr. Neermal Dental Surgery in Port Louis. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, and materials for dental procedures.
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment according to strict infection control protocols.
  • Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures, including operative, surgical, and preventive procedures.
  • Perform dental x-rays and assist with digital imaging, ensuring patient safety and diagnostic quality.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including medical history and treatment notes.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-operative care, and treatment plans.
  • Manage patient scheduling, appointments, and confirm upcoming visits.
  • Prepare and pour dental impressions for models.
  • Order and maintain dental supplies inventory, ensuring all necessary materials are available.
  • Ensure patient comfort and provide a calming presence throughout their visit.
  • Perform general administrative tasks such as answering phones, filing, and processing payments.
  • Adhere to all local, national, and clinic-specific health and safety regulations.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Dental Assistant (minimum 1 year)
  • Knowledge of dental instruments and sterilization methods
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations in a dental setting
  • Proficiency in dental radiography techniques
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Proficiency in English and French (Creole is a plus)
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer literacy for patient records management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification from an accredited Dental Assisting program
  • Experience with dental software (e.g., Dentrix, Open Dental, or similar)
  • Knowledge of cosmetic and restorative dental procedures
  • First Aid and CPR certification
