Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert chairside assistance to dentists during a wide range of dental procedures, including restorative, endodontic, prosthetic, and surgical treatments.
- Efficiently prepare and maintain dental instruments and equipment, ensuring adherence to strict decontamination and sterilisation protocols.
- Support dental hygienists with patient care, instrument preparation, and maintaining a clean and organised clinical environment.
- Take, process, and mount dental radiographs (x-rays) as required, ensuring patient safety and diagnostic quality.
- Manage patient records accurately, including charting, updating medical histories, and processing consent forms.
- Order and maintain stock of dental supplies, ensuring availability and preventing wastage.
- Provide clear and compassionate post-operative instructions and oral hygiene advice to patients.
- Act as a chaperone when required, maintaining patient comfort and confidentiality.
- Assist with reception duties and administrative tasks as needed to support the overall practice operations.
- Ensure treatment rooms are fully stocked, clean, and ready for the next patient.
Required Skills
- GDC registered Dental Assistant qualification (e.g., NEBDN National Diploma in Dental Nursing or equivalent).
- Minimum of 12 months post-qualification experience in a dental practice setting.
- Proficiency in dental radiography and current IR(ME)R regulations.
- Strong understanding and practical application of cross-infection control procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a focus on patient care.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Highly organised, meticulous, and proactive with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficient in using standard dental practice software (e.g., SOE Exact, Dentally, R4).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in assisting with advanced surgical procedures or sedation dentistry.
- Additional qualifications or certificates in dental specialisms (e.g., impression taking, oral health education).
- Knowledge of CQC compliance and clinical governance.
- Fluency in additional languages beyond English.
